brings even more skills and flexibility to our dedicated team. The Oak
Park Public Library is seeking a full-time Children’s Services
Librarian, and we would like to find candidates who are passionate about
public service and who love working with children and their caregivers.
We aim to develop enthusiastic school-age readers and lifelong
learners, and we have a created a play-based learning environment to
help us achieve those goals. You bring collection expertise, an
understanding of child development, and an appreciative knowledge of
both classic and contemporary children’s literature, particularly for
the tween middle grades.
Your interest in applying emerging technologies to Children’s Services
matches ours, and your awareness of current library trends and best
practices is astute. We work with a wide range of children from birth
through age 13 and we expect that you have, too. Your interpersonal
skills, problem-solving initiative, and effective communication habits
are bolstered by self-motivation and some supervisory experience. In
other words, you are a fantastic Children’s Librarian who is ready to
hit the ground running.
Responsibilities: Assure positive customer experiences by offering
excellent reference and readers/media advisory. Perform fun, dynamic
storytimes as well as tween programs in-house and through community
outreach. Develop and promote a collection, contribute to our web site,
help plan a popular summer reading program for tweens, and build
invaluable relationships with youth and their families.
This is a full time, 40 hour a week position, which requires one
evening per week and a weekend rotation. Starting salary is $41,558
annually. Minimum work experience: 1 year working with children in a
library setting required; relevant experience working with tweens ages 9
to 13 is preferred. |
